
As General Manager of Agro Resources, Inc. Derrick Nishimura is responsible for our clients’ agricultural operations island wide, supervising both the East and West Hawaii farming teams. The crops include macadamia nuts, coffee, and tropical fruits. Derrick also plans and manages establishment for tropical crops, taking the land from brush covered property to a productive commercial operation.
Derrick is the Responsible Managing Employee (RME) for Agro Resources’ Landscape Contractors License and has a State of Hawaii Commercial Pesticide Applicator license. He works with his staff to plan and plant trees, shrubs and ground covers as part of the landscaping services offered clients.
Derrick has been involved with Hawaii agriculture for the past 32 years. His career began with the sugar industry and evolved into diversified crops ranging from mechanized coffee production, nursery production, and guava production.
He is a graduate of the University of Hawaii, with a Bachelor of Science degree in General Agriculture. Derrick is also a graduate of the Agricultural Leadership Foundation of Hawaii program with Class VII.
Derrick was the Orchard Maintenance Superintendent for Kauai Coffee overseeing the field operations; Kauai Coffee is one of the largest irrigated coffee farms in Hawaii. He was also the Orchard Superintendent for Kilauea Agronomics, LLC managing the field operations of Guava Kai, once the largest guava farm in Hawaii.
Derrick has served on the Board of the Hawaii Tropical Fruit Growers, past Member-at-Large of the State of Hawaii Board of Agriculture. He is past vice chair for the Waiakea Soil and Water Conservation District, and past vice president of the Kauai County Farm Bureau.
